The Green Sea Turtle’s range is tropical and subtropical seas around the world. The name refers to the green fat beneath its carapace due to its diet, not its color. They inhabit shallow lagoons, feeding on seagrasses. They migrate long distances between feeding grounds and hatching beaches. They live up to 90 years in the wild. They are listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and are protected from exploitation in most countries. It is illegal to collect, harm, or kill them. Many countries have laws protecting nesting areas. Turtles are still in danger due to human activity.
